Default Help....HD Garage Door Opener Frustration...

Before I start...I know there are many different mods and ways to install a GDO, but I got a great deal on the kit and decided to go that way!!!

All you touring drivers out there with the HD GDO I need help...
After and exhaustive search and a lot of back and forth with a professional GD installer I have yet to solve the problem...

Yesterday I installed the HD GDO kit on my 2011 RKC. I followed the instructions to a tee and having an engineering background can say the connections are solid, no shorts in the transmitter wiring on the bike. I installed the receiver and wired it up...and then nothing!

I have checked the wiring and reset the system numerous time to no avail. I immediately went into troubleshooting mode and think I have determined the receiver is bad. Here's why...

First I have a liftmaster GDO and it is only 4 yrs old. The transmitter "links" to the receiver, evident by the transmitter led coming on for 1 second and the led on the receiver blinking (from on to off to on). The receiver makes no "clicking" when activated. If I take the ends of the wires that plug into the receiver and put them together the door opens, reinsert them into the receiver, flip the hi beams and nothing!

Any advice? I know electronic items can't be returned (I would want to exchange it anyways) to the dealer, but broken is broken! For those that have the HD system, is there and audible click from the receiver when it's activated? Is there a way to really test the receiver? Per the instructions, all indications are that it's installed correctly. I want to make extra sure it's the receiver before I head to the dealer. The receiver is a sealed part and I really don't want to open it up. What would be the proper way to check the wiring for a change in current? I have a meter and a fluke, but am so out of practice I don't want to take an incorrect reading.

Any advice from those that have this unit, or suggestions from others would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
A

Don't you have to program it some how before it starts working?

Did you do this?

To program, you will need to press and hold the small button on the receiver till it blinks. Have someone else flick the high/low beam on the motorcycle. The blinking light on the receiver will turn off after "pairing" with the bike. Let go of the button and programing will be completed.

+1. Make sure the transmitter and reciever are programmed to one-another. Once they are paired, you will see the light blink, and you may hear a click in the reciever (cannot remember). If you don't pair it will appear to be dead.

Default I wish that was it...

I have paired the two multiple times. Hold the receiver button, flash the lights, the receiver led goes out and then as described..nothing. It is after pairing that the transmitter led will go on for 1 second and the receiver led flashes. I've even unplugged the receiver, waited 10 seconds, hold the reset button while plugging it back in to give a rapid blinking led to completely erase the receiver and start anew with the pairing process...

I have the HD GDO. It was working fine for a couple of years then just quit. Mine started doing the same thing as the OP. The dealership checked the sending unit on my bike and it still worked, or actually didn't work, just like the OP. I removed the two wires from the receiving unit that connect it to the opener, cut a little off the wires, stripped them and reinstalled. It works fine now. All indications were that it was properly connected before. Don't know if this would work for you, but it certainly doesn't cost anything to try.

Default thanks for the replies...

I just finished re-attaching the receiver unit to the GD. I still have nothing. Does your receiver click or make any kind of noise if it's activated? Is there a way to test the receiver like hitting the reset to "flash the led" and cause the door to open? I could go to the dealership, it just they're 70 miles away and it's raining

Since I have to carry the fob for the new '11 RGC anyway, I bought a Linear Mini-T (Ladybug) Compatible Mini Keychain Opener from Amazon.com for a bit over 8 bucks. It works about 1/2 block from my house. Installation required that I enter the 8 digit code from my Linear garage door receiver and then hang it on my fob key ring and throw it in my pocket (took almost 2 minutes). For those that don't have a Linear receiver or compatible with an 8 digit pin switch, you could have also bought one of them for only 18 bucks and tag it on along with your existing receiver so all the existing remotes still are in order. I guess some folks love to make a simple solution a big expensive and labor intensive project.

I just bought an extra remote for my GD and keep it in my windshield bag. When I get close to the house, I get it out and push the remote and drive right into the garage.

Default thanks for the help....

The dealership, Brian's in Langhorne, traded the receiver out and now life is grand! Looks like the case of a bad part. Thank goodness there is still dealerships out there that still care.
