I ride an 01' FLHT and am on a fairly tight budget, kids fiance etc... I'd like to add a stereo system but can't justify spending $500-600 for a Harley stereo system. I've looked around a bit but can't find anything descent and cheaper. Anyone know of an OK low budget stereo that'll fit my bike? Is it possible to use a car stereo on a bike? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Buy an iPod with earbuds. That'll be the cheapest.
There you go. Although I have a factory stereo on my Ultra Classic I always carry my ZUNE MP3 player that will hold 30,000 songs. I can either plug it into the stereo or carry it in my pocket with earbuds.
Yes, you can use a car stereo in your FLHT. Because of their smaller size, you'll need to adapt it to fit the radio opening; Biketronics and Hawg-wired sell installation kits.
Most also buy the Biketronics or Hawg-wired interface module to have handlebar control of the radio; but, since you're on a tight budget, you may go for a simpler installation and forego handlebar controls.
don't forget to change your speakers too. If you are in low budget you can go parts by parts. HW installation kit, car stereo and speakers. If you can, interface for hand controls. If start more, this will not end with indash dvd, amps, fairing speakers, 6,5/7,25" speakers and so and so...
If you want to see nice installations, Glacierpearl have a very nice one for example and Harleypingman too
Thanks for the info guys. I looked and looked for info on car stereo's on bikes but just, apparently, never looked in the right places? I thought I was pretty internet savvy... I'm going to skip the handle bar controls, for now at least. Just want something to plug the ipod into. Also I think I saw a foam spray that you can load into your electronics to water proof them. I'm going to look into that as well. I will post it if I find it. Thanks again for the info!
