Red face Lets see who I can Baffle

I have an 06 ultra. I now have 60+ miles on it. Here is the problem For a short while my transmission shifter lever that is located between the primary and the transmission is wabble to say the least. I have tried to tighten it but to no avail, it is tight. I know that I need to replace it but do I really have to remove the primary off or can I just loosen it up just a smiggen to get the lever off?

Thanks and I hope I didn't baffle to bad...

Not only does the primary have to come off, the gear assembly has to be pulled out of the transmission to replace that lever. I'm referring to the shifter shaft. Been there, done that.

Your way to fast for me. But now you have stumped me cause I don't understand why you would need to pull the gear assy. I have not pulled anything yet but it just seems that it is the lever not the shaft from the trans.

If the splines on that shaft are still good, the primary is all you'll have to remove. But more than likely, both sets of splines will be bad.

I had the same problem, luckly the splines on the shaft were ok and all I had to do was remove the primary. If the shaft splines are shot, you will be tearing into the tranny. There is a product out there for replacing the lever without pulling the primary http://betterlever.com/ but it involves cutting the old one off.

It's easier to take off the inner primary. Which is not all that hard, and kind of fun.
