Out of the blue I have a saddlebag latch that
won't stay closed unless I lock it with the key???
I am sure it was because it was in a bind or something
and I didn't catch before closing, my question is
there a fix for this anyone knows other than replacing
it??? 2009 Ultra right side.
I have heard of people taking out the canvas lid keeper and put it in upside down. It seems that it gets creased in a certain way causing the lock to pop open.

I have this happen and noticed the canvas lid keeper sometimes folds over the wrong way. If the latch dosen't close easily with little pressure then this is what is happening.
Ditto on the lid strap. right before you latch it reach your hand in there and see if it folded wrong way. I have heard of people taking them off and ironing them the other way.
Canvas keeper was the problem, went back to garage
checked it, and it was between the lid abd the bag
itself. I made sure it was inside the lid and all closed
like it is supposed to. I took the keeper off and turned
it around so it will fold in a different position. Always
good to get the straight scoop from others on these
boards and am happy to help someone else when I can.
Good info about that piece of canvas. Lid came unlatched last week on a hard run in the wind. Lid opened up all the way before I noticed it and sucked out my girlfriends' cap and my favorite Schampa Doo Rag.
I thought this was just the nature of the beast with the baggers. I've never owned one where this didn't happen. When I'm on the road for the long haul I always lock the latches because they will always open up when I'm rolling down the highway. Around town I don't really worry about it and I've never had a problem with them opening. From the directive Dawg posted, it looks like this had been a problem since at least '02.
I'm so glad I came across this thread. I recently started having problems with my right saddlebag, stiff latch, occasionally popping open. I never would have considered the lid strap.
