I hit a good bump in the road with the wind blowing 30 / 40 mph across me and it ripped the 08 tour pack lid off the bike and broke it on the hinge side. Anyone been through this ? new hinges and latches with new black lid $400 from Harley. Ouch .. anybody got any spare lids ?? suggestions ? experiences ?
Suggestion...Lock your lid when your traveling, that way it won't fly open on the road. Expensive lesson learned. You can check flea bay for a lid and hardware, you may find something that just needs to be painted to match your current color.
They are made from ABS plastic, if it is just cracked around the hinges, you can drill the rivets out, remove the hinges, use ABS cleaner and glue ( found in the plumbing Aisle of Home Depot "Oatey Brand" ) glue it grom the inside, get it painted and rivet on hinges.
If it is broken bad and chunks are ripped out, you can get ABS plastic and glue from a good auto body paint and supply store , repair from the inside, paint and redo the hinges.
The tour pack that I've run on the old 89 and now on the new 11 SG came off of a mid 90's cop bike and big holes cut into it for lights, communcation gear, etc.. repairing it with ABS patch panels, abs glue and regular body work supplies was not hard as all. Once it was 95% done, just gave it to the painter to finish the prep and shoot the paint.

I have some abs plastic if you cant find any to use for reinforcement if needed . and yes home depot or lowes or menards has the glue but use the black glue. The primer is all the same but the black glue is what you want.
Time to hit EBay, and do a little used shopping. You can find something to replace it much cheaper than going new, then just have it painted to match. The post that said to lock it, makes a lot of sense in retrospect doesn't it.
How does this type of thing happen?? Did you leave it unlatched? Or did the latches just fail?? I guess I will be locking mine from here on out..... Yikes

+1.
Pleas let me know if the latches failed or if you forgot to latch them.
My riding buddy always locks his in fear of something like this happening, I thought he was crazy, after seeing this post, I am probably the crazy one for not locking up.
BTW, ebay will be your best option. If you don't mind Knock Off's I believe Fairing Factory (FF) has some new ABS ones listed on ebay for very cheap prices.

Call 209-814-6162 and talk to George he has many bagger parts sold me a new saddlebag bottom, lid and latch in perfect condition for 295.00. he is a great guy and I am sure he can help you. I even bought some front saddlebag guards without the holes in them look like brand new for 40.00
