I have a TomTom that my wife bought me, and it stays in the truck right now. I'm debating whether I should get the Ram mount for it or just spring for a new GPS just for the bike.
I have used the Garmin 478 (actually a marine chartplotter) for quite some time. It's weatherproof, auto-routing, has all US maps installed, and I can download routes for future use. It also has an internal battery, XM radio, and moving weather radar.
The con...they're still quite expensive.
I've had this one for a few years, use it both in the car and on the bike, and have ridden/driven most of the US using this thing.
Last but not least, its kept me out of some nasty night weather I wasn't able to see with the naked eye.
H.O.G. road atlas...it's in my saddlebag, in case I get lost. Don't believe in technology when I'm out on a joyride - work in IT so I'm running away from it when riding...
I used a Tom Tom with a ram mount for a couple of years with no problems. If it was raining hard I'd just put a sandwich baggy over it. Just replaced it with a garmin 3790 using a ram mount also. The new garmin is much easier to see in sunlight.
