Default Radio Static

I have a 2001 ElectraGlide Classic that has developed a loud "staticky" crackle that comes from the stereo when going in excess of 30+ MPH and almost seems somehow related to the speed compensated volume feature. Has anyone ever experienced something similar and, if so, how did you rectify it ?? The problem existed prior to installing a new internal antenna and better aftermarket speakers.

You need a dc line choke. You can get them at radio shack. It is either alternator, or ignition noise. the choke will take care of it.

Radio antenna not properly seated. Removed mine, cleaned the paint off the very bottom of the antenna and set screw and the noise went away, better reception also. I also found a loose ground where the antenna grounds to the frame under the seat.

...and/or poor aftermarket ignition coil/wires/sparkplugs.

check ignition noise by starting bike and dialing up am station in your car.

if you car radio picks up the bike ignition, then you can look at that. RF from an ignition system can cause problem with EFI systems.
