I have read the threads regarding this "noise" and now I don't feel mine is unique or abnormal.
This loud ticking sound has to mean there is metal to metal contact going on and that means wear, which can lead to a failure. I switched to Mobil 1 20w-50, and no difference.
Maybe the MoCo is avoiding a recall by alerting dealer techs that this is "normal" and within specs. BS!!

cut the push rods with a bolt cutter and install a set of SE Quick install adjustable pushrods. My 07 ticked like a freakin set of drums and after my cam install and the new push rods it's quiet now. By the way...it ticked for 55000 miles.

If any of you guys ever tear into your motors and start measuring clearances, you'll see why they tick so much. The tolerances are rediculous. There's slop room everywhere, especially in the rockers.

The noise is probably normal. My '03 made alot of racket until the hydraulic cam chain tensioner upgrade with adjustable tapered pushrods at 45,000 miles. Real quiet now.

Thats exactly where the noise is coming from i just recently shimmed my rocker boxes up and the noise is gone. The valve train geometry in these engines causes the rocker arm to wear on the support plate once you get a few thousand miles on the motor the wear levels out. Your left with large tolerances that allow the rocker arms to move side to side causing what you are hearing.

My 07 FLHT STD made so many noises from everywhere. I never had any problems with the engine. Now I have a 2011 FLTRX 103 & this engine is quite compared to my 07. But do have the HD shop check it out.

I have a 78hp sewing machine between my legs with a box full of marbles attached to it, but it has a 5 yr warranty.
( yeah extended warranties suck, but there are Indy's around here that do HD ext. warranty work )
You said you're running Mobil 1. Synthetics are just going to increase the noise you hear.
I noticed it more when I switched to Amsoil.
