Default windshield noise

So i finally rode the king with the windshield. It seemed like my engine was twice as loud. My other bike has a fairing and is not as loud. Ive heard that sometimes with a windshield engine noises increase. Is that true. I dont ride with a windshield, but am going on a trip and thinking about taking the king so I wanted to try it out first. When at idle in the garage sounded normal again, maybe Im just crazy

Windshield will amplify every single noise that comes out of the engine...everything you are describing sounds normal to me!

When I ride my friends Road King with a windshield it makes a loud shrill or whistle at highway speeds 70-80 m.p.h. It gets very annoying.

The windshield doesn't make the engine louder, it makes the wind noise quieter, making it easier to hear the engine that's why it sounds the same as before when sitting still.

What he said................................. and you will still be able to hear at the end of the day.
People don't realize what that wind noise is doing to them.

+1 on the wind noise. I have lost quite a bit of hearing in my left ear from riding for years without hearing protection. I now ride with foam plugs and I can still hear those sweet pipes.

I tried a w/s on my panhead when I was in my teens and hated the top engine noise coming up through that shield. Never used one again until about 4 years ago. I still haven't gotten used to the noise but I don't get worn out from wind blast at highway speeds. I wear earplugs on the road and that cuts it down.

To state it correctly, the noise was allways there, it was just masked by the wind rushing by your ears without the windshield, now that there is no air going by your ears it is easier to hear the engine. There may be some sound reflection from your windshield, but mostly is the lack or masking wind noise.
