So I have my 09 Street Glide in what I fear is a millions pieces... Doing the inner fairing swap and I just realized that the new painted (Red hot sunglo) inner does not have holes in it yet for the mirrors. A panic senario at first realizing now "I" have to drill the holes. They provide a template which should be interesting.
So anyway can I get some pics of other avenues you guys have taken vs drilling the holes? Different mirror options and why you went that direction would be great.
You could just go with handlebar mirrors. In my opinion you have a better view behind you. But I had the holes so I put the kuryakyn blind spot mirrors on my inner fairing and they are great! I couldn't be happier and they come with a template for those who don't have the holes. The holes aren't that big so I wouldn't sweat it if you drill them in.
I have these. I have not put them on yet but am going to eventually. I am going to put in new handlebars and to accomodate the new bars will re-drill the holes a 1/2-3/4 inch higher on the inner fairing. That should give me a little more room for the handlebars I'm thinkin'. At any rate these mirrors are Wicked Image "fast lanes" and they stick out a little further than do the stockers and look pretty slick I think.
i have a pair of black stem harley mirrors i plan on installing in the near future. i'll leave the stock streetglide mirrors in place so i don't have to cover any holes. i know that covers are made to where you can cover the holes, but leaving my stock mirrors in place should work fine. think"quadraphenia"-the Who's vespa motorscooter.
i switched to the handlebar mirrors.my bars were in the the way of the fairing mirrors.looks better and gives the painted inner a cleaner look.plusbetter visibility with the short stem mirrors.good luck.
When I put 14" apes on my SG I filled those holes with tweeters from my component speaker package and just run a mirror on the left side h-bar (for johnny law)......
