I've heard questions like this on the forum before and the best advice that I have heard and did myself before buying is see if you can rent a bike for a weekend. See what fits you.
Glad I did, was leaning another way before trying out bikes, then I found my FLHT and it fit me like a glove. Good luck.

the road king is a great choice. i have a streetglide but i have a good friend who has an 05 roadking. when we go riding there are times when we'll swap bikes for part of the trip, and i gotta say, that roadking of his is very comfortable. it's a very versatile bike in that the windshield can be removed if you want to cruise around town, or with it in place, you're ready for a long trip. try to ride other bikes, even a heritage softail might fit you well. they're another that can be stripped down for ease of maneuvering around town, or dressed up for the highway trips. take your time and find out what fits you is the best advice i can give.

Look into some demo days and ride everything, you'll find your fit.

I am on my second touring bike. The first was a RK and loved it. All the touring bikes share the same frame so base your choice on things like; detachable windshield, frame or fork mounted fairing, etc.

One of the things that surprised me is how much I enjoy tunes while riding so for me that would be a bike with a fairing.
