I’ve been thinking on going with a 7 or 8” however after a little research it seems some have experienced the buffeting issues. So now I’m thinking of going with a 9 or 10”. I’ve been looking at a few choices; from Fast Aire and also the Recurve type from Clerview Shields (they also have the normal type as well). The Recurve is looking promising (allow a lower shield and reduce buffeting perhaps). Also, I will probably go with a light tint or no tint at all, especially if it becomes a year round shield.

Anyhow, I would appreciate any feedback on shields for the Ultras. I do realize the overall size will be slightly different for everyone (person’s height, seat thickness, etc.) I just want to see what kind of results you have had, may make my selection a little easier.

Edit: forgot to ask if anyone has tried the 5 position vent from Clearview, seems like a nice feature, not sure about the looks?
You want a 7"-8" for summer months and a 11"-12" for winter months. Check out the Baggershield it goes from 7-1/2" to 11-1/2" and you can change it any where anytime. www.baggershield.com

I've been running the same shields on my bikes for about 6 years. You're right about the price and the customer service. Small mom and pop business at its best. Also like the way they extend past the speakers.

Don't mean to hijack your thread... But.. How do you like the low down Mustang seat? Mine is arriving in the mail tomorrow. Do you like the way your position is while riding with the lower seat?

I Went with the Memphis Shades blue 8 or 9" which ever it is. Perfect height. You bike is sort of the same colors as mine, the blue ws will look good on it. No buffeting for me, but now my wife passenger complains about buffeting since I took teh 12 off. Seriously giving some thought to a 15". but then she will always complain about riding

I definitely appreciate everyone's comments. Wow, I didn't realize there were so many companies, styles, etc. I do have my work cut out for me… However, the feedback will make it Much Easier.

First 50 miles on new SG was with the stock shield, that sucked out on the highway. Next 100 miles was with a 10" fast aire sheild, better, but did not like the quality and the fit of it on the bike. Last 200 miles has been with a 9.5" Clearview with recurve. Favorite so far, can see over it easily, the recurve pushes more wind over me with less buffeting and the clarity and quality of the sheild is fantastic. I'll be sticking with this one for a long time.

As someone on here said, shields are personnal preference. What does or doesnt work for one may or may not work for others. It is trial and error basically. There are so many variables that only you can decide for yourself what is the correct shield. But since you asked... I have the 8 inch LRS Ultra flip with medium tint. I am 5'9" w/34" inseam and have stock seat. I noticed that it depends on what type of helmet I have on as to whether or not I have buffeting or not. If I wear my 3/4 or HD half helmet then this short shield isnt very good for highway speeds but if I wear my Vega half helmet (skid lid) I have no buffeting at all no matter what the speed. I also have a 12" LRS Ultra light smoke but dont really like it much as it is right at eye level and when we are in any type of twisties it becomes agravating trying to look over or thru it. It was my own fault for getting the wrong height and nothing to due with manufacturer. The guys at LRS are very good to work with.
good luck
