You'll have ample pull up to about 3600 - 3800. After that funs over. But by the time the funs over your doing about 110 mph..personally the tq and power is where I like it. 96...not 103 though.

Please describe what is feels like when "the fun's over" after 3800 RPM.
Does the bike simply stop going faster, requiring an up-shift?
Good cam low and mid range torque. Sure theres others. had them in an 09 ultra pulled well upto 4500 to 5000 RPMs maybe you would notice falling off on a piece of paper from dyno but i never did.Traded for 2011 LMTD. used SE254e tryin somethin different think woods 555s be a good choice also. Oh the 09 was a 103 ci motor also. Would have used again just tryin somethin different.
I have the setup you see in my sig. 104 ft/lbs TQ at 3526 rpm and still over 100 till about 4100 rpms. If you shift where you say you do, they'll be fine for you. That said, if I had a 103" and a little higher compression there MAY be better choices. If you have higher compression and any headwork, there's probably better choices.
Good friend of mine had the 103/255 combo in his bike. I've got the 103/204 with SE rockers in mine. He had his bike dyno'd a couple of times, and in the summer months, he had issues with detonation, which required a re-tune. He just wasn't as fast as my bike, no matter how it was tuned, and so over the winter, he built a 107/54. I'll let him have this summer, but am collecting parts for my next upgrade.
Don't confuse dyno charts with on the street performance.
I've also put the 255s in a 96, and was very happy with that bike. No detonation issues whatsoever.
Tell ya what...leave the cams alone, and keep what ya got done...no sense opening up a new engine.. you may run into trouble...look at other postes...more issues with cams in new engine...to me not worth it...

Is it obvious? Disappointing?
Thanks
I'm running 255s in my SE103 and I can say that the fun definitely isn't over after 3800 rpm, it keeps pulling hard till I hit the rev limiter. Other cams may pull harder in the higher rpms but the 255s are still fun up there.
