I wouldn't mind a reverse gear, mainly to help me get the bike in the garage. Backing it in is a pain because it's slightly uphill, and I have to go around my truck that's parked in the driveway. Hard to get any momentum.

If I park headfirst in the garage, I have to back it out, and risk permanent disfigurement if I accidentally run over my wife's flowers.

i've always thought that if a person has some sense when parking their bike they can avoid the need for a reverse gear. it's worked for me for a very long time, and no i've never had to back my bike uphill to get out of a parking place. by choice

I've managed without for over 40 years!

That's a serious problem!

We live in a small old town, that has managed to squeeze in a supermarket, despite not much space. The solution to getting big delivery trucks in and out was to put in a turn-table for them.

I've owned BMW flat twins over the years and you can turn them around on their side stand remarkably easily, with both wheels in the air. Never tried it on my Harleys, I must admit....

I installed the Champion Reverse on my 2009 Ultra Classic and when I traded it for my 2010 Ultra Limited the reverse was switched over to the new bike,

Works great, I use it every day. Install is easy also,

Really helps if backing up while a trailer is attached to the bike,

Tim

You guys that say you did with out it for many years, i know where your comin from. Same here, did with out it for years. Just saying, think about those times when you arrive somewhere, where the parking is not great for bikes and you have to find that one spot that you know you can get out of. Reverse gear, problem solved. Me, i like the convenience. Gps with mp3 ( no more cds), lights for tour pack and hard bags, tour pack organizer, charger in tour pack and tour pack quick release. All just a convenience.
The guy who turns his bike on his kick stand? What a great idea. Dont think im going to try it with my Ultra classic. I think the Weight, 8oo lbs?
What would the stand put up with?

I admit it was a party trick, but I didn't invent it. I used the centre-stand, not side-stand, sorry about that! It's all down to the geometry of the centre-stand on the pushrod BMWs and a well positioned grab handle on the side. Bike probably weighed around 600 pounds. Harley stands are a very different arrangement and not very helpful with performing such gymnastics! Also there are no grab handles that might help. I have never even tried it. On the other hand, a jiffy will put up with more abuse than any of us can put it through.

If the Harley centre-stand was close to the bike's centre of gravity, I'm sure some of the stronger riders out there could spin a dresser around on it!

Well I am a new Touring bike rider and yes so far I have not NEEDED reverse but that isn't saying there haven't been times I would like too. I was shot in the leg in Iraq and have nerve damage to my lower leg. So I have to be extra careful where I park. So I have been looking at the reverse kits that are out there. Say all you want but for some of us we might not have a choice.

Hmmm, make the wife get off the thing, then get off the thing myself and wheel it backwards fully loaded with luggage. Or simply shift into reverse and back up.

To each his own but I prefer the latter....
