Well.. I feel a little better. 2Black1s- Agree with all those variables. I'll put some miles on her and some highway miles for sure and take 3 or 4 tank averages and see where i'm at. appreciate all the input !
I have found it is nearly impossible to get the same amount of fuel in the tank of these new bikes to do an accurate mileage check. It is incredibly frustrating...I think the only way to do it would be over several tanks and do an average MPG.

I ride a 2008. I am not sure if you are calling that a "newer" bike or not, but I don't understand what you mean about getting the same amount of fuel in the tank.

Isn't a full tank a full tank?

It would be if you could see the level..My 07 was easy fill to the top and go. This 2011 kicks the nozzle off and then you can spoon feed damn near a gallon if you have the patience. Sometimes I do some times I don't, but the level "looks" the same.
The worst tank I've had so far was 31 mpg, but that was also during multiple tuning sessions with TTS so I was riding a lot more aggressively/differently than normal. It's usually mid 30's in mostly city riding, I think the best tank I ever got was ~42 when the bike was stock.
31 is a little low but I wouldn't be too concerned yet.
I got an even 40 from my first tankful, taking it easy for the break in. 2011 Street Glide, 103, SE Ventilator, SE Fatshotz, SE race tuner, no dyno yet, just a base tune and quick pull on the dyno. Bike runs great
My '11 Road Glide Ultra averaged almost 51 mpg over its first 1,000 miles - when it was completely stock and not being ridden very aggressively.
It now has stage 1: Vance & Hines Power Duals, Monster Ovals, Performance Machine Super Gas a/c and SE Pro tuner. Just got back from an 800 mile jaunt to SoCal and averaged 43 mpg.

Same with my 08, I've only filled it truly full one time. Takes several minutes. I usually fill to the the first shut off and just go with it.
I got the link somewhere, maybe on here, it is accurate as far as I can tell. I will pay more and go out of my way to avoid ethanol.
