Doesn't that seem a bit Low? I have only 522 miles on the bike, RKC 2011, 103, Samson long tail true dual pipes, Stage I, Screaming Eagle Race Tuner. Bike sounds and runs good. A little decel pop, but it doesn't seem bad to me. Am I a little premature on worrying?
Or should I be getting better MPG? Should I take it back to the tech for retune, (it was not tuned on dyno when they initially tuned it). I figured I would wait until the 1000 mile service.. Ride a few hundred miles more after that then check MPG again, and then do a Dyno tune? Should I do a dyno tune now? Is it necessary? What do you guys think?
31 mpg at least 10 mpg low. I had the same problem when I first brought my SG home. I took the bike back for another tune, didn't do any good. I had to find a better tuner. The second tuner told me he couldn't believe my bike would run without fouling plugs as rich as the a/f mixture was when it came in.
I'm getting 37.48 mpg. That's with V&H 2 into 1, Air filter & PCV. I just installed Woods TW-555 cams so I'm not sure what I'll get now. I tend to have a heavy throttle so my numbers will be lower than someone who is more conservative.
All posts are accurate. On top of that I'll say that your scoot will do a bit better after about 1,000 miles. During the first couple of hundred, I was afraid to stray far from the gas station!
On my '09 EGC I was only getting 33-35 mpg. I had a stage 4 103 with D&D fat cat exhaust, and a SE heavy breather. It was tuned by a few different people and that was the best I could get. If you have a cam in there you should expect not much more.
1. Are you using the stock tune now? If not, what tune is being used? Stage 1 download?
2. Is your quoted mileage (31mpg) measured in city riding or on the highway? If city, it is low but not alarmingly so. If highway, you need to have the bike dyno-tuned after break-in, as 31mpg is unacceptable.
3. I wouldn't try to judge mileage with only 500 miles on the bike. Give it a few K and then report back. After break-in you should be getting mid-30's in the city and mid-to-high 40's on the highway at 55 mph if tuned properly.
