I had an '06 SG and it rode fine with me (180lbs) and my girl on the back. Did 8 hour road trips with no problem. Got my '10 EG Classic and put on 12" SG shocks and the ride sucked ***. Bottomed out all the time. I ended up putting my stock ones back on and it was an immediate difference. It did lower the seat height, but if that's what you want you could try an HD Sundowner seat and it'll lower you a little also. With the 12" shocks and the Sundowner seat it was the perfect height for me.
I put them on when I bought my bike in '07. No problem bottoming out but one started leaking after about 18 mos. Put the stock ones back on. I won't buy another set.
I have a short inseam so I had the 12" shocks installed on my bike before I accepted delivery. I also had the front end lowered 1" and had a Reach seat installed. I never could get those shocks dialed in. Bottoming out or bouncing us off the seat.
I got a take off pair of 13" shocks and sent them to Phoenix Customs and had him lower them to 12" and set them up for our weight plus luggage. They worked much better than the 1st set of 12" shocks. The ride was better but I wanted more ground clearance so I got another set of take off 13" shocks and installed them. I also raised the front end to stock height and installed Ricor Intiminators.
The ride improved dramatically at this point and I have been very pleased for the last 20k or so. Early last year I installed a Sundowner seat and it's a lot more comfortable than the Reach seat. I got a pair of thick sole/heel boots so I can at least get the ***** of my feet on the ground.
