Default Easter Ride Choke Down

About 75 miles into an Easter afternoon ride, my'05 EGC began to choke down on me. It happened three times almost right in succession. Clutching and then throttling through it, it never happened again on about a 210 total mile ride. I'm pretty sure the culprit was bad gas. Because at the end of about 150 mile yesterday, with needle on "E," and the fuel light on, I pulled into a store that sold only unleaded via very old pumps. I only put 3 gallons just to get me to the next stop where premium was available.

Was the bad fuel the culprit? Or do I have other issues arising?
