Gents, I have 'a friend' who decatted his 2011 RGU. I'd NEVER do that myself because I don't want to kill the trees, bunnies, etc... LOL.
Anyway, the bike has been running like CRAP since decatting. It's been surging underway, hard starts, fouled gas-smelling spark plugs.
This is just a cautionary tale for anybody else planning on de-catting their 2011's. He's ordering a tuner today and HOPEFULLY that will fix it for him.
Makes me wonder if anybody went with American Customs decatted pipes if they had any issues like my friend has...
I was going to go with the AC pipe cuz I felt lazy about de-catting my stock header. After doing the math I just couldn't justify it so I pulled the triger and no problems just better breathing. Runs just fine. I would suspect the 02 sensors are not working properly which when I considered going with the AC pipes they said something about their pipes might not have the sensors in the right place or size (something like that) which helped make up my mind. If the sensors are not doing what they are supposed to the mixture from the ECM will be wrong which is what it sounds like youve got going on.
Those of you that have cut the pipe open with a hatch style cut - for lack of better word - know that the converter material starts about 1" after the first weld, and that the o2 sensors are located 3" before the weld. So that already makes at least a 4" void that exhaust gasses can already hang out in.
Basically what Im sayin if you look at the picture (courtesy JCturbo and his thread) you will see a void already exists, and there is no way that crosstalk doesnt already happen.
**** while were at it, aren't we saying basically that the rear head is the one getting messed up, cause its the one that not "separate"? Hmm maybe the moco already knows about the crosstalk and the lean condition, and that is why they installed the engine temp management system?
Come on guys put two and two together....
I did mine 1000 miles ago, I have not one problem....
I have been saying this for about a year now. That crosstalk issue is BS.
Been running with a cat gut on my '12 Ultra using V&H FuelPak set for SE FatShotz and dual pipes for 1K miles. O2 sensors are installed but bypass plugs installed (provided by V&H).
Have not checked temps using a probe but motor is running cooler and I find performance is very good from low end torque to high rpm.
Since the FuelPak doesn't care about the O2 sensors maybe this config works okay?
Will my local hd dealer decat an 11 sg? Or do I need to take to an independent ?
It's simple enough to do yourself. the hardest part is removing the headpipe from the bike. If you can do that, you've got it. There is a writeup on here that may help you decide.
Removed my CAT on my 11 Limited, no problems at all. I bet he has an exhaust leak at the head or somewhere else. That would cause these problems. Just removing the CAT isn't going to cause this. I wonder if he got the O2 sensors back in the right spot. No tuner is required, the stock ECM will compensate for exhaust changes.
Yup no problems with mine also. It runs strong and cooler. Something got screwed up with the 02 sensor configuration.
