Yeah, I know about "warm" here too. I think that with weather below 35 degrees, I was only able "not to ride" about 20 days this last winter.

If you have the 2500 mile warranty, it will void the warranty

what? no you can't. synthetic oil can withstand higher temps before breaking down, but it gets just as contaminated as dino oil, just as quick. hd will tell you, even using their syn3 not to extend your oil change interval.

The dealer doesn't give a crap about you but he sure loves your money. The HD engineers know more than that inflated douche bag does.

Hopefully, you will choose a better dealer for your next purchase. Save yourself a fortune and do it your self. Keep records. I take a pic of the speedo, the service manual, tools, oil, filter and keep a written log of the items to check at the periodic service being done.

I will venture a guess that my works exceeds the average shop. Check some of the posts on this issue. One recently found out he paid for the service and it was not even done.

THIS!

Running primary oil HD's rec 10k is too long because well before 10k miles miles prim oil is very dirty witha lot of metallic contam (from cmpensator, clutch mechanism, gears & sprockets, prim chain etc) and clutch material in it making the oil very dirty & burnt smelling too.

Changing prim case oil @ 5k miles with motor oil & filter makes a lot of sense because it ensures there's always cleaner fresher oil and @ 5k miles it still comes out looking dirty with contam in it but it doesnt look or smell near as bad as when run 10k miles.

Cleaner oil always being in prim will only extend srvc life of compensator, clutch system, prim chain & rubbing blocks on chain tensioner, etc.

Hd recs 20k trans oil change, i rec changing @ 10k miles or 1yr,whichever comes 1st because having cleaner oil means less wear and its easy, fast & cheap to do only req 1qt oil so it's a no brainer.

The trans oil looks sig dirtier & beat up @ 20k miles vs changing @ 10k miles which is why i rec 10k mle max on trans too.

BTW,HD's run hot esp in summer heat and i would not rec running std dino to 5k miles,i rec running std dino 3k miles, semi blend 4k miles & full syn max of 5k miles all being 20w-50 oil specifically engineered & formulated for HD v-twins.

Will your HD motor.prim or trans self destruct is you dont follow my rec above, absolutely not.

But will your " expensive HD " be better protected from wear which can extend srvc of all components lubed by the fresher less contaminated oil l for only a few bucks more and a little more maint time if you follow my rec ensuring there is always fresher oil in the motor/prim case & trans @ all times?

YES.

Thats simply because clean fresh proper oil for aplicationp it's being run in means there will less friction between all moving parts being lubed buy the oil and less friction between all the moving parts = less wear, end of story.

Doing the above also ensures the inside of the motor, prim case & trans will stay cleaner over the yrs/miles because changing them more often doesnt allow as much contamination & dirt to build up inside them increasing wear & reducing srv'c life of all moving parts lubed by dirtier oil that may also have sheered viscosity too reducing its overall lubricating effectiveness too.

BTW,all HD's oil change maint/mileage change rec's i ref to above are directly from the HD factory srv'c manual i have for my 09 FLHTCU so maybe newer HD's have revised/diff oil change rec's for the motor/prim & trans.

Owner manual you can download it from HD free. If you can't do that I think I have one some where around here.
