I blur it out...as said above once it's on the web it's out there for good and if it can make things just a little more difficult for the bad guys why not?
yeah....if someone is able to locate you and steal your ride through the license #, then they are probably cruisin the bike shows and writing tag numbers down anyway....
I don't worry about it....got plenty of "help" around my house, starting with the dog..
When you're on the road your just another traveler. No one even pays attention to us which is one of our biggest complaints right...
When you're on the internet you expose your views, beliefs, and can sometimes just be an ***-hat which may offend the wrong person. A person who is not well adjusted. Not just HDforums people...any "people" connected to the internet.
Without any real effort or actual Tag numbers a jackwad can:
Take your tag, find the state, social engineer your general where abouts based on comments you've made. Start querying tax records in each county compiling 2010 Ultra Classics with their owners names and addresses. Find that picture of your bike in your front yard, and then use Goggle Streetview with the addresses to find your house. THEN use Streetview to find the perfect placement for spray painting, "Jimmy wears fingerless gloves and likes Sears Jacks!" right on your house...
How many of you know about geo tagging on a digital photo. If your camera or phone has GPS capabilities, your GPS coordinates can be embedded in the photo that you take. With simple and free software from the internet, the photo date and location can be found.
i suppose if you're doing a hold up at a liquor store it would prevent the surveillance cameras from identifying you. i've never felt the need to cover my plate, i guess i'm just not paranoid enough.
LOL, my comment about scanning the photos for marketing was total paranoia. But the rest of it was common sense. Its good to put up some barriers to compartmentalize life on forums from RL...you can let the barriers down as you choose, but you control them. You don't tell random strangers on an airplane what your address and SSN do you?
Let all the non-paranoid among you post your name, address, and phone number in your sigs from now on, lol. What, nothing bad can happen, right? Those privacy nuts are just paranoid.
I was wondering why some people try and cover up or white out their motorcycle or vehicles' license plate in a photo. Do you try and cover it from people while riding down the street in public? What information (none) could one gain by seeing your plate in a photo verses out in public while you are riding?
