!Look What I Pulled from my rear tire - and NO LEAK -yet ?!?!
Take a look at what I found in my rear tire during a pre-trip inspection.
What worries me is that there was no air leak when I pulled it out. At least nothing I could detect, even with soapy water. I guess I'll know more in the morning.
This thing is almost an inch long and was in at about a 30 degree angle. It must have been just under the inner surface. Hopefully far enough that it won't leak. I still have a lot of tread on that tire.
Anyone know how thick the new Dunlops are from the deep part of the tread?
You got lucky like I did. I pulled a staple out of my rear tire about a month ago. It obviously had enough angle, it didn't penetrate to the inside. was it near the sidewall?
That large a nail, you probably should have it checked. It'll be on your mind now every time you ride. What a bummer man!!!
screw that, go get another tire. is your life worth saving the 150 or so to replace the tire? i had a nail not so long ago and i had the tire for less than 1500 miles. yes i was pissed, but i ride with my wife and sometimes my daughter. no way i wanted that guilt.
If you have the tire and wheel warranty, and happen to inspect the nail hole long enough you will find air leaking out of it (hint, hint). A flat with at least 3/32 of tread left = new tire under the warranty.
This one did go all way through but never lost air pressure.
It was a 3/4 inch head 1/2 inch bolt 6 inches long.
My first hint that there was a problem was in a light left turn/lean I kept hearing
Klick, Klick, Klick, Klick, Klick that would go away when riding in a stright line

A perfect testimonial that you can safely plug a motorcycle tire...

Yep, that's a real possiblity. Just not sure how I'm gonna get the bike to the dealership 50 miles away.
