Default Unpacking baffles

I'm considering some competition baffles from Jamie at FM, but after reading some other posts about taking out the packing on dyno tuned pipes with standard baffles, I'm wondering is this an alternative?

I've read about the 4lb.tq loss with the comp baffs, and wondered if un packing mine would give me the louder dbs without the power loss. Would there be any performance loss or remapping needed (running a PCV)? Anyone know what this sounds like compared to the comp baffles db wise? Don't want any ping or high notes.

Never done it before but is this a DIY job, and can you reinstall the packing if needed?

Thanks

Perfect timing. I have a FLHTP with 103 and HB intake, V & H ProPipe and ECM recalibration. I was thinking the same thing yesterday so I removed my baffle and unpacked the glass and steel pack. Definitely louder and seems to be no torque loss. No dyno but not noticeable riding. the glass section was 4" and the steel was 2.5". I did put the carcass back in for back-pressure. I think the dyno testing and R & D was done with baffle design and the packing was after for noise reduction reasons. I don't know for a fact but assume. I might be wrong thou.

Thanks. I heard that the packing helps with the backpressure (some). I just don't want to mess with the MAP if I remove it (don't want back fires on decel). I'm going to try it next week.

Good morning. I have a Chrome Pro Pipe # 17559 on my 2010 FLHTP Electra Glide Police Bike that is equipped with a 103 engine and Screamin' Eagle Heavy Breather intake with Stage 1 ECM recalibration. I have a few questions I am hoping you can help with. 1st, will removing all the fiberglass and steel packing but keeping the silencer unit carcase inside the muffler hurt anything such as low end performance? Will the only change be loudness? I am thing of changing the pipe to a 47559 <http://www.vanceandhines.com/download/47533-Install.pdf> - high output model. Does the black ceramin Pro Pipe High Output flow too much for the 103 engine with just an intake and ECM recalibration? What is the 26529 - Competition Baffle ($95.95)? Is it louder or change the performance curve over the stock baffle in the Chrome Pro Pipe?

Removing the fiberglass will not affect the performance, it will just increase the sound. The high output is a tuned header system that was designed for 110” motors or bigger. It will be to unrestrictive for your motor size and not perform as well as the chrome. The Competition baffle is a top end performance orientated baffle.

I too am wondering this same ? I have a similar set-up and wood be interested in find out some more info about that. Another ? is to remove the baffle do you need to remove the slip on from the bike. I have tried to remove it by taking out the screw on the bottom and it wont budge? Let me know what you find out. May try it after my trip next week. Thanks

I had the FuelMoto Pro Touring pipes on my 2012 SG prior to my 120R, great pipes but I wanted a bit more "bark". I took about 1/2 the packing out of each pipe and they were louder. After that I took all the packing out and they sounded great with no noticable performance loss.

So looking at my Rinehart baffles and there is no packing in them...they are a straight through hollow piece!
