Doing a service for a www.rftw.org yesterday and realized my fuel filter most likley has not been changed and it was wayyyy over due..
First off - I would love to meet the engineer that designed this fuel filter - he/she needs a Good Spanking - What a PIA location
AND to top that off - HD should be ashamed - $68 for the fuel filter kit > $10 for new screws - HD says to change every time and $6 for the gasket and don't forget sales tax. All this is OK because HD has very cheap labor charges..
IF a poor smuck (like most of us, lol) goes in the stealer and says, change the fuel filter - get ready for over $200 charge, OUCH.
here is a very good youtube IF you feel so inclined

Biggest PIA is (believe it or not) getting the new hose on the filter and in the tank.
Next time plan ahead and buy the parts from an online discount dealer!
What is included in "$68 for the fuel filter kit"? I bought the filter and O-ring of EBay for $15 delivered. Is the "kit" the filter, o-ring and hoses?

filter, o ring - hose - clamps.. If you got a HD part then you got the deal of the year - was it in a HD package??? what was the item number on ebay... would like to check it out
It is weird when you Google Fuel Filter Kit 61011-04A Latus and others have them for $17 or so but there is no picture or list of what is included. The "kit" I got on EBay included just the filter and O-ring in a small sealed plastic bag with part number 61011-04A on it for $15.
It looks like I need;
screws $10
gasket $6
fuel lines & clamps about $20
So my total cost would be about $51, less than you paid but only by $17 or so.
What is confusing is that they have a part number for a kit but it is only the filter and O-ring.
And ok, I'll say it. Glad the guy in the video wasn't working on my bike...cover the whole tank for cryin out loud, that whole assembly banged into it several time during that demo...
