Dude, thanks for this. I started looking into mounting my iPhone this morning and came across this post, now I don't have much thinking to do, except which beer to choose when I do the job! The only difference is I'm hoping to find a mount that will receive my iPhone but then also let me switch out to a standard tri-pod type receiver so I can mount my video camera instead if I want to.
i just use this... www.mountek.com thing works great on my 2012 FLHX, not nearly as clean as your setup, but I'm too lazy, and scared to drill holes into my bike!!!
That iSimple universal makes for a very clean install. I have mine mounted via RAM too but with a UBS power cord out one end and a patch cord out the other.
I just bought MotionX GPS Drive on your recommendation I hope your right because I have a dollar riding on it :-)
I like the Isimple interface but I when you plug into the low signal level outputs at the bottom of the phone you lose the phone's music volume control. Using the headphone jack leaves the volume control visible. With my amp installed it was impossible to turn it down to a lower volume level, even with the amp's gain controls. I went back to the headphone jack.
I bought a really nice mount for the console from www.CycloneCustom.com. You can get it from Iron Aces too and the isimple will wire right into it. Headphone jack ports at the top too. I like it because it makes my phone look built in and it uses my ignition key to unlock. Sun and heat isn't an issue either because they include a removable UV shield for the phone in the kit. It seals the phone from the weather too.
has anyone used the iSmart IS75 Polywire with an iphone 4s? I bought one and it does not charge the phone. Could it be a defective cable? It does not show any indications, icons, etc to let me know it is actually charging the battery...tried both iPhone and iPod.
Should you be able to use your phone through the bike speaker/audio system with this connector? I can get the audio/ music to play through the radio system but not the telephone calls... or is this cable not for using the phone through it?
