Can you get a 5/16 nut centered over the stud and mig weld the nut to the stud and use a socket to remove it, would save you a lot of time and expense, you may have to hire a welder if you cant do it. Worse case you muck it up and have to pull the head

It's a fairly straightforward job to pull the TC cylinder heads. The important thing is to get the manual and follow the torque sequences, both in removing and installation. There is a specific pattern that needs to be followed, and cylinder heads are fussy about it.

I posted up a sequence of pics a couple of days ago where I tore down and rebuilt a TC88 motor on the bench. It's a whole lot easier when the motor isn't in the frame, but the tasks are essentially the same.

I think the easiest way to get at it is to remove the cylinder head, get it on the bench, and have at it.

My question is this... What is the correct way to remove the cylinder head. Im by no means a mechanic but can find my way around a shop.

any help is greatly appreciated
You have to take a lot of **** off the bike to get the head off. Head pipes, gas tank, rocker box. Push rods ,Rockers, intake, fule line, some wires. Not in that order You have to work clean. Need a TQ wrench. Will need new gaskets. Most of all a shop manual for your Bike. It's up to you. Some times it can the broken stud can be removed. With out taking the head off. Some techs have little tricks to get the stud out. Welding on a nut. Double nut. Some home made off set tools. Can you post a photo?

I'll second the recommendation of welding a nut on it. The heat will break any corrosion in there and make it much easier to remove as well as eliminate the high probability of the drill f-ing off on you and ruining the head. EZ-outs are a money maker for new parts mfgr's.

Easier to just pull engine out of frame and quicker.

Crap...I missed that on this one. Been a lot of people digging up dead threads with the search lately.

This is what I would do.
