Jack placement question
Got a lift for my Road King. Looking under bike see what appears to be a rail that is about the same width as the rear lift arm. It is probably about a foot in front of the rear tire. Is this designed for the lift. Will it support the weight, it is not real heavy steel. Is this the balance point. Thanks

I have used that point, but, I had to remove the rubber material on the lift for it to fit correctly. It is probably part of the factory lift area where they move the bike on the assembly line. I normally jack the bike forward of that area with the right part of the jack just behind the jiffy stand. Be sure you use the rubber mats on the jack or you'll dump the bike. I glued them on with Gorilla glue after they kept coming loose.

easy tip, put a 2x6 on the floor and roll the bike backwards onto it so the rear tire is on the wood. It just gives you the extra height to easily get the jack into place. Leave bike on side stand, push under, center and pump her up. Leave the stand down untill the jack is locked, in case the jack fails for some reason.

Used mine for the first time last week. I had to go in from the opposite side. More of a clearance issue with mine. Don;t know for sure if one way or the other is right. Art

Hello all...
I noticed the same channel on my '94 Ultra.. I used it, and the bike balanced just fine.. However as stated above.. I also had to raise the back tire to allow my jack to fit.. And I did go in from the oppisite of the jiffy stand.. Made me feel safer that way.. Not to mention that my wife was holding on too.. (First time lift)..
But it all worked fine, I love having a bike lift! I think it was the best $49 I ever spend..

I always go in opposite the jiffy stand. A 1/4" piece of plywood under the jiffy stand is nice for clearance, btw. Just be absolutely sure the rubber mats are securely in place on the jack or, the bike will turn freely and could fall off. That's why I glued my rubber mats onto the stand with Gorilla glue.

Make sure the rubber pads stay put, and then just trial and error your bike so that both wheels are off the ground and the bike feels secure. Make sure you use the straps to anchor it to the lift. Safety is important when you are lifting $20,000. dollars worth of machine in the air.
