I run premium because my owner's manual says to. I'm a pilot not an automotive engineer so I won't second guess the guys that designed the engine and wrote the book.
Well said. Both my cars require premium and my truck takes diesel. I'm not going to worry too much about a measly 5 gallon fuel tank.
Switch between mid grade and premium. On tour throug the eastern us got better milage with mid grade sometimes. Premium runs cooler because of additives to retard the burn rate and actually runs dirtier if you don't need it.
I'm not going to worry too much about a measly 5 gallon fuel tank.
Too bad you'll have to refill that measly 5 gallon tank many times over.
My former boat took 400 gallons of diesel to refuel. At just 10 cents a gallon difference that's a $40 difference per refill.
There's even more savings by changing your engine oil at 5K miles, 10K miles for primary and 20K miles for transmission as per owners manual.
I take it to the next level using Walmart brand Dino oil instead of synthetic oil and guess what, no engine issues in any of my vehicles including boat approaching 1.5M miles combined. 1M+ on motorcycles alone.
Then again I tend to favor Taco Bell lunch specials over Ruth Chris. I found no matter what I eat in the end it turns to crap anyway.
Hey Denny. Stop comparing a 400 gallon fuel tank to a 6 gallon tank. You'd have to do a complete fill up almost 70 times to realize that $40 savings. That's over 16,000 miles. So, If I use regular instead of premium, I'll save $40 after 16,000 miles. Wow! I better switch now.
Also, your boat didn't get 40 mpg. I know, mine only gets 2mpg.
Let's do the 5th grade math:
Saving $2.30 per tank X 3 fill ups a week = $6.90 a week
x 52 weeks = $358.80 savings a year X 10 years = $3588 @ 0% interest.
So that's enough to buy a new 96" HD engine every 4 1/2 years.
If invested in HOG stock that's a new engine every 2 years.
You are still working for a living, right?
10 years running regular, your bike would be toast by then !! Either that or your the luckiest man on earth....
