Running higher octane than required leads is wasted money and sometimes diminished performance.

At 45 MPG I'm not worrying about the cost difference b/w 87 and 93.

Yep, looks like switching to regular will save you about $2.30 per tank. Put that in your piggy bank for the next 10 years to pay for your damaged engine on your $20,000 bike.

Another money saving tip.........I would also go for the recycled automobile oil and the $2.00 Purlator oil filter and save even more.

contempt prior to investigation.

Some people just dont get it and wont look at the facts but if you feel better running high octane then sweet.

That is pure bullpoop. I turned wrenches for better then 20 years professionally.

A stock harley engine does not have the compression or timing for the need to burn High oct fuel.

Pop in some HC pistons, do some cam work and tuning to get the most performance out of the motor ie run it on the ragged edge then maybe it would be a requirement but on a stock 88,96,103 etc Nope not a requirement. It may be a suggestion on Mocos part but it is not an absolute requirement for engine longetivity/reliability.

To me it is kind of like saying you can only use H-D sparkplugs, lubricants and only tires with the H-D name on them.

Always use premium. I knew that was recommended when I bought it. If I had to feel I need to nickel and dime the fuel, maybe I shouldn't have bought it. I also have a station near by with 100 octane fuel for the abundunce of classic muscle cars in my area. I pick up a half tank of that once in while also. Kinda like buying a big boat and bitching about the fuel prices, maybe the boat was not in your budget.

Let's do the 5th grade math:
Saving $2.30 per tank X 3 fill ups a week = $6.90 a week
x 52 weeks = $358.80 savings a year X 10 years = $3588 @ 0% interest.

So that's enough to buy a new 96" HD engine every 4 1/2 years.
If invested in HOG stock that's a new engine every 2 years.

You are still working for a living, right?
