Default Oil in higher temperature areas?

I know MOST people use 20w50, but I'm in Vegas where temps can get to 100+ no problem. Would 20w50 work or should I select a different motor oil?

Also, any suggestions on tranny and primary oils for those temperatures?

I only deal with 100+ 3-4 months out of the year(prime riding season!).
I've never had a problem running regular fluids for 25 years.

Use a synthetic of your choice. I use Amsoil 20/50 in all three holes. Never had had any issues.

If you are concerned about it, Red Line makes a 20w60 motorcycle specific oil. Sounds like just what you are looking for. I think if I was riding in constant high temps like that I would give it a try.

20w50 WILL work fine, 20w60 will work better, synthetic better yet.

Can I buy Redline 20w60 at any generic local auto store? Or will I have to special order it?

I feel your pain with heat issues, I am about 4 hours away from you stationed at the "gate-way" of the mojave desert.
The owner of my ultra had already installed the premium oil cooler kit for my year. So there was some peace of mind given that it's suppose to come into play when oil temp gets over 185F.

A few weeks ago we had 92F and I went & rode the hell out of my bike I wanted to really spin the motor up after 4 hours of hard riding I parked it & oil temp was 218F Normal op temp per the manual is 200-240F but have seen lots of people report temps near 270F.

For the peace of mind I would install the oil cooler kit from H-D its really just plug & play for your year. The part number for your year is 26155-11. If you can change your oil you can install it yourself.

There is also 25/60 available, Drag Specialties has it bottled for them so it should be available or ordered(not special ordered) thru any Drag Specialties dealer, that means almost anywhere. I would give it a try for the summer to see if you like it.
