Anyone have as much trouble with these things as I have? I have replaced all 4 brackets at one time or another. This time, I had the right side fairing bracket break at the 90 degree elbow at the top. Didn't replace the bracket this time (which is a real pain BTW), I used L brackets from Lowes, 2 1/4 inch bolts and washers with locking nuts, and a drill. Never coming apart now. Anyone else here have problems with them? (No, I didn't get pics of my fix)
Yep, did this fix myself on the left vertical bracket 2˝ years ago and its still holding. I also fortified the right one in the same manner and did a write-up here.
I've broken three horizontal brackets and haven't figured out a way to fortify or fix those, but as has been mentioned the new ones are better designed and may hold for much longer without breaking. I like the idea of using rubber washers and may insert some of these some day. Be careful adding washers, because you may need to increase the length of the bolt too. Otherwise the bite may be too shallow on the threads and weaken it in that location.
My bud just bought all 4 brackets and the 2 main vertical brackets have been redesigned and reinforced. The 2 horizontal brackets have been redesigned too.
do the 2011's have the redesigned and reinforced brackets?
