Default 2011 FLTRU starts no throttle

Just wanted to let everyone know of an issue I encountered this weekend and what worked to get bike going again. Was out riding and met some friends to go for another ride shut the bike down and started back up not 5 minutes later, engine light stays on engine running fine but no throttle response, tried a couple times same results, seems like bike is some kind of limp mode. Called service department of the stealership purchased from asked what could try, he stated take out the plug behind the A/C cover and check for corrosion since seems to be an issue not in this case only 1200 miles and looks good. Asked if any other ideas has none, no surprise there, ask if could get tow since just bought 6 months ago, states they are too busy. So one of my friends calls a friend to see if he has any ideas and this is what actually worked, turn off ignition and then kill switch, turn on ignition and kill switch, due this 3 times in quick succession, do not start after the third time, once complete turn everything off and let bike sit for a minute. Turn on ignition and start, engine light should go out and should have throttle response. Seams the bike thought the throttle was not in the correct position so would not allow it to work properly; doing the above steps resets computer to the position of the throttle.
Not sure if anyone will ever have this issue but thought would be good to know.

Good info, thanks. I had a throttle problem that was ******* me a few months ago, no rhyme or reason. Sounds like almost the same thing. I have PCV/AT and accepted all trims, that seems to have remedied mine.

Doug, i had the same issue on 2011 103 Road Glide Custom. had to have throttle by wire replaced, and new ECM put on and had my tuner redownloaded. Now bike runs fine and has better throttle response.

Similar issue with my 2011 CVO Ultra Road Glide this past Saturday.
With only 781 miles on it, I stopped to top off the tank getting ready for a ride...... and upon turning on the ignition switch, I noticed that the check engine light would not go out at all.
The machine would start but there was no throttle response at all. Shut it off and restarted it several times....same thing.
I waited about a minute or two, recycled the ignition switch, kill switch, and restarted it several more times and finally just idled it away from the gas pumps in disgust.
Ended up in a parking spot, ready for a long wait and recycled the switches several more times......still nothing.
I finally just walked away for about 10 minutes to clear my head.

I came back prepared to pull the seat and disconnect and reconnect the ECM and Throttle Control Actuator plug but I decided to turn the switch back on one more time, and wouldn't you know, this time the check engine light went out as it was supposed to.
I restarted it and had the throttle response as normal.
While I had it running I drove the 5 miles back home and parked it....grabbed another bike and took off for our ride.
I dropped the affected machine off at the local dealer this afternoon, and will await their diagnosis hopefully tomorrow.

One of the Service Dept personnel told me that they usually keep some new pins for the Throttle Control Actuator plug (TCA) on the induction module but they have to await the OK from Harley Davidson before proceeding.
They said that there are some other checks that they have to perform first before being given the go ahead to replace these pins.

I was going to remove the connector to the TCA and the ECM myself and administer the Dielectric Compond (grease) to the connectors as I have read here on the Forum, but I figured that I should talk with service dept first.... and I'm pretty sure that (that) was the smart play since it is under warranty. No sense in tampering with the evidence I guess.

I did not run the diagnostic codes, so I don't know exactly what they were.... but I am going to ask the Service Tech what they were when he calls me with the diagnosis (hopefully tomorrow).
Things happen, and I know that as well as the next person. I do feel fortunate to have a great service department at my local dealer and feel confident that this minor inconvienience will be corrected.

Here is the SB on fretting pins.

The way I read it the pins that fret are not the ones on the plug into the TCA its the ones on the plug that plugs into the ECM.

Glad / well not glad was not the only one who has had this issue may take back to stealer and see if they can determine the root cause.

Does disconnecting the battery force the light off and temporarily recover e-throttle function?
