With my 2009 I was often having the typical high idle issue when I'd start it up, even when I'd wait 10 or so seconds to turn it off, it would happen again when I started it up next time... the dealer couldn't fix it, just gave me the procedure to reset it. Just seemed like the nature of the beast. I son't want to jinx myself, but with my 2011 RKC, I haven't had the high idle issue happen once... AND glad for that!
This was the "fix":
IF THE BIKE'S (2008) IDLE CHANGES FROM AROUND 1,000 TO 1,200 RPM TO A HIGH IDLE UPWARDS TO 2,000 RPM FOR NO REASON, HERE IS THE FIX UNTIL HD COMES OUT WITH A DOWNLOAD CORRECTION:
<< THE BIKE IS NOT RUNNING AT THIS POINT - DO NOT START IT YET!! >>
LEAVE THE CUT-OFF SWITCH (ON THE RIGHT SIDE HANDLEBAR) IN THE ON POSITION AND TURN THE MAIN KEY SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION. WAIT UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OFF. TURN MAIN KEY SWITCH OFF FOR 5 TO 9 SECONDS (ALARM WILL USUALLY SOUND A CHIRP) THEN TURN MAIN KEY SWITCH BACK ON AND GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS FOUR TIMES.
THE FIFTH TIME GO AHEAD AND START THE MOTORCYCLE BUT DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE WHEN STARTING. IDLE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED.
Guess I'm lucky, as the 2011 hasn't ever had the issue, but my 2009 seemed to have the high idle issue a LOT. Anyone having the high idle problem with a 2011??
