Guys,
When I try starting my bike 05 I get a click and a slight dim of the lights. The battery is at 12v and the interesting thing the voltage does not move when I try to start it. I am wondering if it is a relay or something. Any ideas? just another note I did have issues with the green wire coming off of the starter everyonce in a while which gave me the same issue. But now I have a good connection and still does not start.
I had the same problem with my Road King.
When i pushed the start button, i got a rather loud single click from the engine area. (a chattering, prob. the battery)...Usually, after turning the ignition off then back on I was able to get it started. The light was on, and everything else seemed fine. I bought a new battery thinking that was it because it was 6 years old...but it wasnt. I was out and it happened again, but unlike past instances, this time it would not start...just the click....I ended up jumping the current across the starter with a piece of wire and it started right up...it was the relay I have yet to find.

still having the same issue. Bike fires up 90% of the time but everyonce in awhile click. Don't think it is the battery because it fires up. I can ride for awile, and then click. Puch start it once and then it is fine the rest of the day. I also already replaced the relay and still get the problem...
twice on my 07 from new had that little problem and both times it was the positive cable on the starter lift the rubber boot on the starter where the wire is and tighten it good and tight, last time i had to do it the nut turned only 1/8 turn and was fixed.
Sounds like to me either the starter solinoid or the relay feeding the starter from the start button(maybe the green wire you were talking about). I would replace the relay first since it is easy and cheap like $5 or so at NAPA or autozone... if that doesnt do it im gonna say its the starter... o and onemore thing make sure the cables are tight and not corroded it makes a huge difference.
I'm very interested in a solution to this problem I have had a similar problem for the last 1.5 yrs. Originally the failed start was 'once in a while'. Now it's rare that the bike start with the starter button. I have replaced the relays, had the solinoid rebuilt, got the battery load tested and check out fine but still have the problem. I put a 'push button' cover on the solinoid so I can get the bike started when this happens. The push button cover has more than paid for itself. About the only thing I haven't done is replace the battery cables and the entire starter. I think they will end up being my next steps.
