Default Trouble Finding Neutral

I'm new to Harleys, but not to bikes. I recently bought a 2011 Road King Classic. I love the bike so far, but I'm having the damnest time finding neutral. The slightest pressure on the shifter and it jumps past neutral. It takes several back and forths with the shifter before it stops at neutral.

Is this a common Harley characteristics? I don't have this problem on any of my other bikes. So, I was wondering is there some adjustment that I can make to allow me to find neutral easier and faster?

Yeah it's pretty common. especially after the bike has warmed up. Some people switch the tranny fluid out and have an easier time.

I have the same bike and had the same problem at first. It'll get better with a little time.

If it is not clutch adjustment related then it will get better with more miles and educating your heel. Switching transsmission lubricants seems to have helped some.

fluid change helps , the more miles the easier it gets , as you are rolling to a stop but still moving sfift down from second to neutral , it is easier than shifting up and waiting until you are completely stopped

Yep, hit it while moving if you can. I still find mine cantankerous after 89,000 miles at times...

Good clutch adjustment at the basket when everything is cold is a must. I've used Formula+ and ATF in my primary with good results. I used 20-50 syn oil for a short time and found the clutch plates to be especially sticky - clunking and hard to find neutral. Formula+ and ATF seem to be better suited for the wet clutch in my experience.

My '08 Ultra has 14K miles. I've changed the trans fluid and the clutch is properly adjusted and I still have to hunt for neutral. It's easier to find neutral when the bike is rolling, but still difficult. I believe it's the 6-speed trans. The 5-speed mated to the TC88 I used to ride wasn't nearly as difficult.
