I was at my local dealership on Saturday talking bikes with the mechanic who was assembling a new SE Road Glide. When he went to put on the windshield fresh from the factory, I saw some great improvements. First was a pretty simple change that the screw holes where not slotted as on the HD windshields, which should make changing the windshield a lot easier.
Second and far more interesting, instead of the gasket at the bottom of the windshield that is a pain in the a** to install, it had a continuous gasket that went under the shield. It got sandwhiched between the shield and the fairing with only a small lip sticking out from under the shield. Look a whole lot cleaner from the exterior and the full gasket surface should keep the the fairing from rubbing the paint off the shield.
So, am I the first to witness this improvement and far more importantly has anyone scored a part # for this gasket.
No gasket is OK with my Klockwerks fairing during the warmer season. But gasket is needed with the stock fairing, bottom with slotted holes is NG.
Dawg, I ran that part # on HD site, no go. I will try a call to stealership, unfortunate that it is a package deal only!?!? So this setup goes back to the 2010 bikes? Mine is an 2005.
It won't show up on the HD site as that is for P&A only. This is a stock part item. It should fit your 05 fine. The fairings haven't changed over the years.
I've just run the last 1500 miles with no gasket on 2011 RG. No problems so far, but I'm keeping an eye on the slots. I just saw the windshield/gasket (57744-11) for $195 my fav website. A bit pricey, but no terrible I suppose, if it gets rid of the dreaded droop gasket look.
