Default numb hand

When riding my right hand (especially my right thumb) gets numb. This is true if I'm using cruise or not when my hands are on the bars. I thought that maybe I was holding the grip too tightly, but that cannot be the case if it's happening when the cruise is on and I'm barely holding the grip.

Does anyone have any ideas? Would higher bars help this out?

Thanks,
mikebaby

Default End Bar weights

I added bar end weights to my Kuryakin custom grips and made a huge difference. Just a thought.

Cant offer you any solutions. Mine has done it for years, with all types of bars. The only relief for me is too rest it in my lap occasionally. Poor circulation I suppose, I've learned to live with it.

Here's my 2 cents. I have been having issues with my right arm and hand. Tingling and numbness in the fingers etc. I have had 2 epidural injections in my neck, yes, those are fun. I have herniated/bulged discs at c5,c6 and c7 in my neck. After all that I still was having issues and they sent me to physical therapy. I was skeptical about physical therapy doing any good. The guy showed me about poor posture and the ill effects from it. Well, after a week I feel better than I have in 3 months and the tingling and numbness is almost all gone. The PT gave me exercises to do to strengthen the muscles between my shoulder blades, taught me to be conscious about my posture and I really think this is the fix, for me anyway. It got to the point where I couldn't ride at all. Your symptoms don't sound as severe as mine but it's worth a try to correct your posture and see if it helps.

My left ring finder was completely numb for six weeks after a trip to KS last year. The FatBoy was the primary bike then with 14" apes. Those bars tended to force my wrists inward when riding.

My finger is still every so slightly number on the inside than it was before the trip last year. I attribute it to some slight nerve pinching from that four day trip out to KS and back to NJ.

With the standard bars on the new bike, I haven't noticed any numbness (other than when riding over the winter without my electric glove liners on!). Of course I haven't been on any 2.5k trips since then either.

I hope to ride out to Phoenix, AZ this summer so I'll try and remember to report back in a few months.

Thats exactly what I do. The left hand will eventually need a quick rest from the bars also, but not as much as the right.

I don't think about it while I'm riding so much, but yea there's a bit of tingling from all the vibration. Has happened on sportbikes for me too.

Some grips and glove can help and cause the numbness.

I love PM on my street glide for short hops, but because not so good on the long rides.

Also a glove with a little palm padding help quite a bit. Just another expensive trial and error ordeal.

Could also be caused by compressing the brachial artery under your arm.
Try wearing a shirt that doesn't bunch up under your armpit.
Also, as mentioned above, your posture could be a factor.
Try sitting up straighter or adding a backrest to your seat. Most of us have experienced this from time to time.
Try everything to reduce it and see how much you can tolerate.
After that, ask a doctor. Preferrably a specialist because your regular doctor will probably have no idea and may suggest that not riding will cure ya.
