I'd hate for you to lose any performance... the guy that's about to do my tune said the thunderheader (old style) works wonders on evo's and smaller motors, but chokes the 96" and up. He said the fat cat was probably the best performing exhaust for these... don't know just going by what he said, and tuning whise this guy is a wizard. O and whoever pointed out the little baffle trick with the fat cat I appreciate it, imma have to look into that this weekend.
I have had a Fatcat exhaust system on my last two Street Glides. I have had a Thunderheader on an 03 Fatboy. I currently have a HQ 107 ST setup and I'm running a standard baffle Fatcat. The same as I had on my 95" 06 Street Glide. I do have a quiet baffle in my garage for my 08 107" that I'm riding now, but was never crazy about the sound of it. Bottom line I'm a bit bored after almost 6 year of Fatcats, (although I really like the pipe), and am going to try another 2-1 pipe of some configuration. Any reccomendations for performance and sound? My Fatcat is pretty loud, which typically doesn't bother me but on occasion, it can be annoying. I'd like a crisp note but one with a little mellower sound. I'm not interested in putting the quite baffle back on it. Anyone?
How bout a supertrapp? I find the exhaust note perfect, just how a harley should sound!
I cannot comment on the old vs new sound but the new one sounds great. I have the PP one my Dyna and I love it. Deeper sound than the FatCat(standard baff) which I have on my SG.
I for one hate my FatCat. It sounds so tingy like the sport compact ricer cars. It make good power but I just hate the sound of it. Plus the V&H is only 500 bucks new! Thats half what I paid for the D&D.
I had the old style V&H Pro pipe on my fatboy and didn't care for the sound.
I have the new V&H Pro Pipe Chrome on my Street Glide and love it!
It's louder than my old pro pipe and to me has a nice muscle car kind of sound to it.
I actually rode with a buddy of mine who has the Fatcat on his Road King and he was really quizzing me about the Pro Pipe.
His complaint was "ricer car" sound as well with the Fatcat.
I personally thought his Fatcat sounded really good, but I think the Pro Pipe has a little bit more of a crisp, kind of refined sound.
If you can get over the blat blat, chinga chinga, metal sound sure.....
Thats the sound your rice cat makes, the supertrapp with twenty discs sounds like a toned downed pro pipe. I have had two of those fat cats so I do know what they sound like!!
