Default Powder Coating Engine

I have a black 09 EG Standard and am thinking of powder coating the engine and exhaust black. I wanted to get some feedback on powder coating and get a ballpark figure on how much I would need squirrel away to my secret account the old lady doesn't know about.

SUMAX breaks it down part by part on their website. Gives you a ballpark. I think they are expensive but it will give you a starting point. Call around. I found the prices and skill varies widely.

How much is the tear down & re-build going to cost you??? I would think that would cost more that the powder coating!!!!

Throw a chrome engine cover kit and chrome inner primary on there and it will look way better. No need to powder coat it black, in my opinion.

Can't help on the engine costs, but as far as powder coating an exhaust, it won't hold up, temps are too hot and it will melt the powder, some say that you can powder coat the heat shields and it will hold up, but I dunno'...

You would need to have it ceramic coated to hold up, I used Electrotech,
http://www.electrotechcoatings.com/ and an average HD exhaust runs about $150.

So an engine needs to be disassembled to be powder coated? I put a big bore kit on my Sporty, but the jugs are black, while the engine is straight aluminum. I just took out the motor yesterday, thinking I could have it powder coated. Looks like those two cans of HD wrinkle black will come in handy after all!
