Getting ready for a ride this morning and a buddy ask me what was that brown crap on my belt guard. He said they had an issue with the swingarm filling with water on the 09s. I see where it was beat around on this forum in early 09 and it sounded like they addressed the issue. Guess not, the dealer told me today they are getting tons of 2010s in with the same issue and if it is still under warranty they will fix it. I looked up the service bul. and they just remove the belt guard , mark the location of the swingarm weep hole and drill a .250" hole in the plastic. They just clean the bike and send you on your way. Save the trip and it is a 15 minute fix.

Yes - that's the fix! Kinda makes you wonder if it wouldn't be a bad idea to spray some WD40 in there. I will say that I've had no problem with rusty water since the "fix" which was done in Nov 2009.

Simple enough thank you for the info I am going to do this today.
I'm confused. If there is rusty water in the swing arm, then I'm assuming you drill the hole in the steel swing arm to let it drain out. Whats drilling a hole in the plastic belt guard got to do with water in the swing arm? What am I missing here? I'd like to see the bulletin.
The HD TTbulletin # is 413, I have the PDF and can e-mail but not post. The drain hole in the swingarm is blocked by the belt guard and that is why you drill the plastic guard not the swingarm. The hole should line up with the hole in the swingarm. This is what my belt guard looked like when I removed it.
Rusty water? So that means that water is getting inside the swingarm and causing rust? Wouldn't stopping the water from getting in there in the first place be a better fix than providing a drain hole or am I missing something here?
