just got myself a 2002 Electra Glide Ultra Classic what things should i be looking at just to make sure all is good for the road? also what are common things that go wrong with the Electra Glide Ultra Classic? any info is welcome thanks
If you can turn a wrench, buy an HD service manual. This will give you all the info you want.
Basic checks are,engine oil level,primary oil,tranny oil,air filter,tire pressures,belt tension,etc-.
The most importantly, check the cam chain tensioners.
You just purchased what is considered by many to be the BEST year for the Ultra. How many miles on it? In addition to cam tenshioners I would check the stator as those have been known to fail over time.
One thing I would do is change out the tourpack tether strap, that thin cable that holds the lid open. It's cheap insurance for something that will cost a lot of money when it breaks and tears up the fiberglass around the hinges.
thanks for the info, and yes I was told the 2002 was the one to look for,the bike has 18,000kms what ever that is in miles! has lots of aftermarket stuff on it HD chrome wheels,SE pipes, reverse gear, handle area all chrome etc... will get some pics and post them up soon.

Definitely check the cam chain tensioners. Although they're likely still ok at 18,000 kms ( I changed mine at 60k I think ). Also wouldnt hurt to make sure the air shoks & lines are holding pressure.

18,000K, the bike is like brand new mileage wise, make sure the tires are in good shape and not dry rotted. Can't imagine the tether is bad with those small hours on the bike.
