I want to get a 1 1/2" thick 13"x13" sheet of black plastic to use as a spacer for a detachable king tour pak for my 2011 FLHP (police road king). I have to have a spacer because of the police bags. I have searched and searched here and the Internet. I have found a variety of plastics sheets on the net, but I must be looking at the wrong stuff. I'm talking $300 for a sheet of 12"x24" pre cut plastic. That ain't happening. I know someone can direct me to what type of plastic to search specifically.
I tried to find a local plastic fabricator and have hd no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to get the tour pak on my bike and can't because of this issue.
A fellow I know that has a police Electra Glide used a hockey puck. Cut it into four blocks to use as spacers, drilled them, and used longer bolts to go through them. His saddle bag lids just barely clear it now.
I've done some more research and found a company in California...I'm in Virginia...that was really cool and gave me some guidance. They said if I want it in black (which is what I need) I should consider HDPE or UHMW. HDPE is more ideal...easier to work with, lighter, a little softer, but...very hard to find in 1 1/2 inch thickness. Normal max thickness is 3/4 inch. UHMW is more readily available in 1 1/2 inch, but is harder, more brittle and heavier. Any additional advise is welcome.
I'd like to determine from those with 09 or newer cop bikes...what is the required clearance. I have heard 3/4 inch and I've heard 1 1/2 inch...big difference.

Sounds like thats the ticket and the price should be right.
I like the hockey puck idea but have a couple other thoughts. Maybe search Mcmaster-Carr for the plastic you're asking about, while you're there search for rubber stoppers or grommets.
Also think about using aluminum tube instead.
THe dealer that I purchased my 09 FLHP from stacked 3 really thick washers together to get me the needed lift. You can see them in the first photo here:
UHMW!!! I used it in the building of concrete batch plants for rental yards. It bolted to the troughs & used has a smooth & tuff surface that belts ran on to carry the rock & sand. www.valleyrubber&gasket.com There here in Sacramento Ca but they are some great guys that should be able to help. Maybe they have something else that would work. Good Luck
You have a couple of factory OEM solutions. 1 is the factory police bracket which moves the box forward and raises it up. black powder coated and rubber spacers with large flat washers. only works with the solo seat since it moves it up. 2nd would be the narrower sqaud fitters box that clears the police bags seen here: http://www.squadfitters.com/catalog/...irch-white-box
I removed the factory police bracket so that I could have the four point docking station. I'm set up for quick detach not permanent attachment, but thank you for the idea.
