I was told that the noise is neutral gear rattle and that its normal......
I wonder if that translates to a corporate risk analysis was done and a determination was made that it's not likely to fail during the warranty period.

When the IPB goes bad it will sound like a steel roller skate wheel being scratched on concrete and go quiet when you drop it in first gear. But neutral gear rattle is not normal or acceptable.
Mine does this as well...in fact I think all 2011's seem to have this noise....maybe FDHOG will chime in as he brought his bike to dealer and had them thoroughly check it out for the noise you are describing......verdict? Told it was normal
What can you do if you keep getting told it is normal?
my bike did the same thing and the main drive gear was going bad and it eat the inner race .... Here is a picture of my inner race.
Is this the inner race out of bearing 6 in my attachment that is actually in the transmission side? (Inner primary race is 16.) I have never quite understood the relationship between it which supports the last gear and shaft coming through the transmission and the inner primary bearing which supports the same shaft on the primary side. What that making enough noise that you could not ignore? Last question is because mine at 40K makes a lot of primary noise and a couple of old school Harley guys say probably OK, just chain slap.

The only time I can hear it on mine is when I put the bike in neutral in the garage, the acoustics bounce around in there and I can just pick it up. Outside, I don't notice it.
