strange noise in neutral
Yep same here, I probably would not have noticed until I read FDHOG's posting about it awhile ago
Work Description: R & R MAINSHAFT BEARING
34091-08 RACE, INNER BEARING $14.00
9231 BEARING, ROLLER $11.55
There was, of course, gaskets, fluid, etc.
And in my case they replaced the tensioner - I would'a questioned the need and asked to see the tensioner but I wasn't paying, it was under warranty.
39929-06A CHAIN TENSIONER, PRIMARY $93.15
As I recall there has been quite a few with the same problem, likely due to inferior bearings, but wow the OP's at 500 miles is ridiculous. I just realized that I am approaching the same milage that my first one failed at.
What can you do if you keep getting told it is normal?
Hey Dawg! Here I am.
500 miles? I noticed mine sooner than that.
Dealer checked it out. Found nothing wrong "It's Normal"
Not being satisfied, I called the MOCO and talked to the tech dept. The "Official" word is Neutral Rollover, noise created by the gears slapping into each other while they are disengaged, causing no damage to the transmission. The MOCO logged my complaint, and gave me a case# just in case anything happens down the road. If more people start calling, maybe they'll do something about it. I switched to Amsoil Severe Gear, and the noise subsided a little.
I mostly learned to ignore it now.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Dawg, I have the 5yr plan too. I developed the ride it till it breaks attitude. It's their problem for the next 4.5 years.
Right there with ya in that line of thinking!
