Does the head unit not have the RCA jacks out to run into the mini in. It will provide a cleaner low voltage source to the amp, I ran the ken wood to the arc this way.
The stock radio doesn't have preamp outputs but you can buy a line out converter for cheap that does the same thing.

Just wondering if a convertor will improve the sound quality? I have been messing with different amp speaker combos since my 06 Streetglide.

Also I have my amp powered from the cigarette light wiring, could that be part of my problem?

If you're using the amp's Harley harness adapter, you are using the amp's built in line converter.

I would get the amp's power wire off the cig lighter power right away and go straight to the battery with it. At high volume, it will heat up that wire and can cause you some problems.

I should have added I'm using a Blauplunkt Amp. Just tied in between the speaker wires.

I'll have to run power to the battery right away, does the amp know to power down when not in use?

The amp should have (as most do) a remote turn "on" connection; i.e. it's a low amperage wire (usually connected to the cigarette lighter or unused power lead on the headlamp harness) that turns the amp "on" when the ignition is moved to the "on" or "accessory" position. Some amps have a sensor circuit that causes the amp to turn on when the amp receives an audio signal from the head unit.

The power wire to the positive battery terminal should be a substantial gauge (e.g. 10) with an in-line fuse (probably 20 or so amp rating) near the battery. You can use the gound stud on the left side of the triple tree for the amp's ground wire. The stud is easily accessed by removing the fairing cap.

I have the converter and yes it sounds better then the line outs (distortion from radio's output).

Also its a real bad idea to run power off the cigarette lighter as its not made to take that type of amp draw. Run a 10 gauge wire to the battery directly (with a inline fuse for protection).

Thanks, will get on the Battery connection tonight and try to find a convertor locally.
