Looking to do some custom cosmetic work on my RK. Dropping her off with the mechanic today to do an engine rebuild, and in the meantime I am going to start planning for bags, wheels, bars, etc. Would love to see other road kings that have a classy, not so blingy build. There was a RK pic thread, but manynof the photo bucket links have been expired. Show me what ya got! Would love to hear details of build also, ie: brands, if you lowered it, shocks, bags, bar type, and what you like about it or don't.
I started with a 07 RK police. Swapped tins, added a Dragonfly fairing and HD lowers, painted in a similar style to the Ultra Limited bikes. 204 cams, Rinehart TDs, pulled out the (older style) abs brakes and converted front brakes to the Brembo system currently in use.
Mine is definitely not as pretty as most.....but that was kind of the point. Started with a '97 FLHRI, and the current (always changing things....you know how it goes) result is the following:
It now sports wrinkle black wherever there used to be a chrome piece on the engine....except for the air cleaner and pipes.....still trying to figure out what I want to do with the breather. The rear swingarm and front forks came from an '08 street glide, along with the rear wheel and Brembo brakes front and rear. lowered 1" front and rear, forks are gloss black powder coat, black head lamp nacelle, custom passing lamp brackets with smoked lenses, black crash bar, Street Glide bag supports, Swept Wing foot boards, and Streamliner accessories on all pedals. Front and rear fenders are '08 Street Glide pieces, and the rear turn signals are currently the Kuryakyn bullets, but are being replaced with SG parts. Flush front axle, 2010 SG wheel and tire, and braided brake lines. Rear grab bar is now a Street Glide part, coated black, and the strut covers will soon receive the same treatment. SG seat and backrest pad with black upright. And I recently installed black windshield supports to complete the look......and unfortunately, it's still not done. So much for my cheap beater bike.
