I just replaced the stock rear tire on my 09 Ultra with a Dunlop American Elite. The tread pattern is different, but the tire still has the dual compound rubber that allowed me to get almost 15K out of the stock tire. I don't know what it'll ride like with 10K miles, but it feels good now. I got the tire at jakewilson.com
Low air pressure will cause cupping. Once a tire begins to cup it will only get worst. If you wait until you cup the tire and then begin monitor the air pressure properly hoping that it will wear down back even, will not happen. Once cupped it will stay cupped until you ride with low pressure again and cup it some more.
I believe even if you checked the prssure once a day on the stock Dunlops, they would still cup. My front tire was replaced under warranty. I like the tread pattern on the American Elite much better.
Dunlops are out the window for me. Metzlers are the only way to go. Experienced all of the problems you guys have and have had enough. As long as I keepthe tire pressure up, itsall good.
+1.....I just switched to the Metz 880 Marathons...WOW, its like a totally different machine, smoother ride and handles soooo much better in the twisty's...like you said keep the pressure up and should get some decent mileage out of em. I'll NEVER go back to Dunlop!
Anyone else have problems with the stock Dunlop 200 tire on the Fatboy or Street Glide. I have had both bike and the rear tire starts to roar more so when turning. If you slide your hand around the tire the outside edge feels uneven almost like a dirt bike tire. I'm changing the rear tire on my street glide and would like some advice on tire selection. Thanks
A 200 tire on a Street Glide? AFAIK, that's not stock. Stock is 180/65-16 on 09 and up models, like for all Touring bikes.
The 200 on the Fat Boy is a 17" tire. Did you put a 17" wheel on your Street Glide? Did you have to modify something, besides the wheel, for the tire to fit?

Same here. Had it installed Saturday. I'll see if it's as good as the D407. I had 11,200 miles on it with 2/32 left. Riding 2-up all the time and the roads in PA are tough on tires.
14.5k on my rear tire was hoping to get 20k and yes the sides are cupping. The front was replaced at about 8500 and was not covered by warranty/recall. Not sure which tire I'm going back with. I have been happy with the rear dunlop I figure by 20k I should know if they fixed the front tire problem by reversing the tread pattern.
I just had my 2010 Ultra in the shop for an unrelated service and asked them to check the tires expecting them to say rear needs replacing. It's fine but front needs replacing. At 17k I thought it might be a warranty issue and he agreed, and replaced it under warranty.I did not know 10s had the issue as 9s.
