My bike threw some codes yesterday. I looked up the codes and there saying ... battery voltage high.accesory line overvoltage insterments and ignition line overvoltage insterments..... any thoughts. Voltage reg ?
sorry for the spelling but oh well. need more coffee.
Sounds like voltage reg to me. Easy enough to check if you have a volt meter. Check at the battery though. Shouldn't have more than 14 volts while cranked. May want to check while it's reved up too.
Thanks for the in put guys. I checked the stator, even though a little on the low side it's still within service specs. Voltage regulator checked out ok. Battery was only holding 1/2 charge. While I was tracking things down. I noticed that the wire coming from my stator to my regulator had rubbed against the motor mount bolt and it rubbed through the wire causing it to arch. Repaired wire ,charged battery and we'll see what happeneds. When I checked the charge at 3600 rpm It was putting out 13.6 - 13.8 vdc. My manual calles for 14.3 - 14.7. I'm a little low but doesn't seem to be low enough to cause a problem. I guess I'll find out....Lol
If battery is low, you will not get "clean" readings of what the regulator is doing.- you get readings of the battery voltage influenced by the incoming current from the regulator
Charge up battery with a charger ( not trickle) all the way--- like a 2 amp charger for 24 hours.
then re-test.
an over charging system will burn up a battery.
with a fully charged battery you can have it load-tested at autozone for free.
this is easily sorted, you don't want to take a chance on being stranded somewhere

just checked and regulator after battery was fully charged. It is putting out 13.5 at idle and 14.5 at 3600 prm. I'll take the battery in and have it checked. If it checks out ok. I guess the problem revolved around that short...........
