I leave it in gear and watch my mirrors. I got rear ended at a stop light about 10 years ago and couldn't get it in gear and moving when I saw what was about to happen. Now, I'm ready to get moving as quick as I might need to.

Always neutral for me. Been for 25 years.

Just Lucky? Who knows. But I do flash my brake-light when a car comes down on me.

The only time I put my bike in neutral is warming the engine while I close the Garage door's. I'm not going to sit at a stoplight with it in neutral and have some cager texting on a cell phone run over me if I can help it. It doesn't hurt anything to start it in gear and these bikes don't have a parking brake to stop it from moving if you are parked on a hill and somebody bumps it. A friend of mine watched his bike slide down a slight incline on the jiffy stand and flop over on the right side because the wheel was turned left with the fork locked. JMO
