Yes, here in Brazil you could start the engine with the jiffy stand down, but if you engage the 1st gear the engine shuts off.

since 07, the bikes have had a neutral gear safety switch that would not allow the starter to engage if the bike was in gear and the clutch was not pulled in.

If the METRIC bike copy cats, copied anything the firsst thing they should have copied is Harleys kick stand. No switches to screw up, you can park it down hill and if you take off with it the angle is great enough that it just snaps up into place.
